Spring Bloom Guide

Dwarf Fothergilla

 Fothergilla gardenii

This small, twiggy, rounded shrub loves sunshine, but performs well in partial shade. It suckers and can colonize an area. The plant has blue-green leaves that turn yellow, orange, and red in fall. White, fragrant 1-2” long fluffy inflorescences bloom before leaves develop and give it it’s nickname “bottlebrush bush”. This shrub grows 2-3’ tall and wide. Native to North America. Zone 5-9.

Wayfaring Tree

 Viburnum lantana

Used in a border, as a screen, or in groupings, this plant provides reliable performance over time. The habit is rounded with stout branches and dull, dark green leaves. White flowers are borne in 3-5“ diameter clusters in May. The fruit are handsome; beginning yellow and turning red and black, and are loved by birds. Grows to 10-15‘ tall and wide. Origin Europe and Western Asia. Zone 4-8.
