“Urushi” Lacquer Brooch Workshop

Objective:
Workshop contents: Polishing a lacquer brooch. We will polish the layers of lacquer to create a brooch.
Supplies included in registration: Rags (cotton), vinyl gloves, protective sheet, paper towels, newspaper.
About Hirai Ayako:
Born in Fukushima Prefecture. Graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design, majoring in Lacquer art. Worked at an antique furniture restoration studio. In 2016, she became independent with her husband.
Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. (20 max per class) Materials included in registration. Cancellation must be made at least 1 week in advance.

“Hariko” (Paper Mache) Mini Druma Workshop

Objective:
Workshop Contents: Painting a paper mache miniature daruma. We will enjoy painting on a small daruma made of Japanese paper.
Supplies included in registration: Rags (cotton), paints, paintbrushes, a protective sheet, a paper plate (for palette) 2-3 hair dryers, brush cleaner (plastic container), newspaper, and paper towels.
About Hashimoto Akie:
Born in Fukushima Prefecture. After graduating from university, she studied the manufacturing and processing of washi paper at the Kyoto College of Traditional Crafts. After working as a washi craftsman for six years, she went on a working holiday to Australia for two years. After returning to Japan, she began making Miharu paper mache at her birthplace Hashimoto Koji Mingei. In 2018, she conceived and created the work “Paper Mache Hanging Dolls”, which she exhibits every spring. In addition to the traditional style of Miharu paper mache, she also creates new works that incorporate dots and pastel colors.
