You will have the opportunity to stroll in the Garden prior to each class. During the class, you will learn Sumi-e brush painting basics and western watercolor techniques from artist, Stella Dobbins, who is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and whose art has appeared in an article in the American Artist magazine watercolor page. Ms. Dobbins had the unique opportunity to learn painting in Asia from various Asian master painters. She also received her degree focusing on studio art from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. She taught art and art history at Rice University before returning home to Rockford.
(Registration or cancellation for each class must be submitted by 12:00 PM. on the Monday prior to each class. A Sumi-e Supply Kit ($25) can be ordered at the time of registration either online or in person at the Garden Visitor Center. You also have the option to use your own art supplies at the class.)

Students must bring to class:
Preferred supplies for the best Sumi-e experience – Sumi-e Ink, rice paper, Asian brushes (at least one medium), tube paints & palette, felt to put under paper, water cups & paper weight (example: small rocks)
