Traditional Flower Viewing Tea Ceremony – Hanami Chakai
- View spring flowers and enjoy a bowl of tea served table style in the garden.
- Saturday’s gathering includes a bento lunch. Bento is a traditional Japanese lunch packaged artfully, designed to delight the stomach and the eye.
- All dates will feature a hanami chakai, or traditional Japanese Flower Viewing Tea Ceremony, and provide a hands-on lesson focused on proper tea serving procedures and guest etiquette.
To follow proper Tea Ceremony etiquette, participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the ceremony and wear white socks. Shoes are not allowed to be worn in the Guest House or Tea Hut. Space is limited for all tea gatherings and reservations are required.
The tea ceremonies & workshop will be led by Kimiko Gunji, Professor Emeritus of Japanese Traditional Art and Culture and former Director of Japan House at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
