Nicholas David Featured at Tonight’s Tuesday Evening in the Gardens

Mark Rose Featured at Tonight’s Tuesday Evening in the Gardens

Mark Rose brings his soothing melodies and heartwarming lyrics to this evening’s Tuesday Evening in the Gardens performance. Originally from Chicago, Rose is best known as a solo artist, and as former front man of indie/emo rock band Spitalfield. Rose’s debut solo album, Wonderful Trouble (2011), was described by Alternative Press Magazine as having the “style and emotion of a John Hughes movie soundtrack.” The evening kicks off at 5:45 pm with local singer/songwriter Warren Franklin.

Japanese Aesthetics – Art of Tea Ceremony at August Lecture

Join us this Thursday for a lecture with Kimiko Gunji, Associate Professor Emeritus at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Professor Gunji will discuss unique features of traditional Japanese culture and arts that have influenced the country’s contemporary daily life and industry. Professor Gunji will perform a tea ceremony and explain its historical context as it relates to tea gardens. Japanese Summer Festival 2015

It’s right around the corner – Anderson Japanese Gardens’ annual Japanese Summer Festival is Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23. Join us for this two-day celebration of Japanese culture featuring unique performances and demonstrations of music, dance, arts, games and more. The festival will include Taiko drum performances, special performances by the street performer, Candyman, traditional tea ceremonies and a sake tasting. Just Like Me Tea at Garden Explorers

Nothing could be more common than drinking tea, having a favorite pair of shoes, or being excited about a special gift from your grandmother. Growing up in Japan might seem really different from us, but we are more alike than it seems. Join us  as we welcome Chai Town Tea for our season’s last Garden Explorer program. The morning will start with  a storytime at 9 AM and interactive children’s activity after.

Strange Americans take the stage tonight for their Tuesday Evening in the Gardens performance. A rock and roll band at heart, their roots lead back to in Rockford. Local singer/songwriter Mitch Brechon kicks off the evening at 5:45 pm.

Dance Along at Garden Explorers Tomorrow

Join us as we welcome Rockford Dance Company for tomorrow morning’s Garden Explorers. Children help make stories come alive as they dance to their favorite books! Participants will follow a dance warm up and play creative dance games using action words, adjectives and imagination! Popular Rockford native, Miles Nielsen, returns to the Tuesday Evening in the Gardens stage this evening. His music seamless blends alternative, country, blue-eyed soul, folk, pop and rock. Derek Luttrell will open for Miles beginning at 5:45. Come early and grab your seat. Doors open at 5:00 pm.
