Title: Etegami Two- One Day Workshops with Artist, Stella Dobbins
Date: classes are arranged by request
Cost: $80

Etegami is a Japanese folk art consisting of simple hand-painted drawings with a few words of greeting to send to a family member or friend. They are usually done on postcards and meant to be mailed rather than kept for display. The etegami motto by Koike is “It’s fine to be clumsy.” This attitude makes the folk art more accessible to ordinary people who don’t think of themselves as “artists.”

The art appeals to all ages because it is enjoyable and relaxing to make a painting. Traditional tools are writing brushes, sumi ink, gansai color blocks, and washi postcards but non-traditional tools are acceptable.

Student will also make their own initial seal.In this class, artist Stella Dobbins, will demonstrate and encourage the students to use subjects from nature found at Anderson Japanese Gardens, such as pine tree, koi, frogs, heron, flowers, etc.

Bring your own supplies or purchase a Supply Kit ($25) from the instructor.
Reservations are required. To set up a class contact Stella at
